Could there be drama in Meru Senator Mithika Linturi’s household? Well, from the look of things, the senator and his wife might just be having some domestic problems.
It all started when the two had a fight at their Runda home and it emerged that the Senator threatened to kill his wife, Maryanne who is believed to have filed a complaint claiming that her husband, Mithika Linturi made threats to end her life. According to detectives, they have questioned the Meru Senator at the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) headquarters over the threats he made to his partner.
The two have been living together for more than five years but according to the statement made by Maryanne, Linturi, a licensed gun holder threatened to shoot her during their argument.
“It was at that stage that he whipped out a gun and threatened to shoot me. I had to lock myself inside my bedroom waiting for things to calm down. Thereafter, I sought refuge in a neighbor’s house until Tuesday when I reported the matter to police,” Keitany reportedly told police.
A senior officer at the DCI confirmed that Linturi was summoned to their offices after the complaint was made and said that the matter is now under investigation.
“There was a complaint of threats against life against the senator and he was summoned for questioning. Investigations are ongoing and we will act accordingly with time,” said the source who asked to remain anonymous.
Yesterday, Senator Linturi denied allegations that he was at the DCI on Wednesday adding that he did not record any statement either.
“I have not been summoned to the DCI nor recorded any statement and if I am called upon, I will present myself there,” said the Meru Senator.
When asked what he had gone to do at the DCI on Tuesday, Linturi said, “The DCI is a public office and anyone can go there when they want at any time. If I went to the DCI it is none of your business.”
The Meru senator who refused to comment on the allegations that he threatened his partner said,
“You write what she (Keitany) has told you. Write everything.”
Keitany on the other hand refused to comment on the matter. She however confirmed that she recorded a statement over threats on her life and said that their differences are linked to what she termed mysterious death of their house help Edith Kananu who died at Linturi’s rural home on October 5 after complaining of a severe headache.
“I don’t want to talk about anything. The case is already active and in case you are interested for details, please get in touch with the DCI,” she said before hanging up.
Edith Kananu, who was taking care of the lawmaker’s house in Meru, is said to have shared a meal with Linturi before he left for Nairobi. Moments after his departure, Kananu complained of a severe headache before she collapsed and died.
Police sources said that Keitany told police that their relationship went sour after she insisted that Linturi should allow the police to probe the cause of Kananu’s death saying that she suspects foul play.
It is believed that Keitany moved out of their Runda home to her house in Kileleshwa house yesterday.
Keitany served as the DP’s chief of staff until March 2015, when she left the post alongside other top Government officials in the wake of corruption allegations after President Kenyatta tabled several names in Parliament and asked those implicated to step aside to allow the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission to investigate them.
Keitany was accused of spending one hundred million Kenya shillings to sponsor a censure motion against the then Devolution Cabinet secretary, Anne Waiguru.
Linturi, who was then Igembe South MP, withdrew the motion, citing pressure from President Uhuru Kenyatta. Keitany and several others have since been cleared by the anti-corruption agency.
