Kibera is said to be the largest slum in Nairobi, and the largest urban slum in Africa. Most of the residents are said to live in extreme poverty, earning less than 100 shillings a day according to research.
Unemployment rates are said to be high, and while many of the people who were raised continue to struggle in life… some beat the odds to become the biggest influencer’s in Kenya.
Life in the slum is no joke, seeing these news makers breaking free from the chains of poverty in Kibera to curve a niche for themselves in their respective haven calls for a standing ovation.

Kenyan rapper Octopizzo has never hidden the fact that he came from Kibera slums. The numba nane crooner will rap about it in almost all of his songs hoping to inspire the youth with his ‘rag to riches story’…. and honestly, his story is truly a motivation
2. Johnson Mwakazi
Johnson Mwakazi is a household name in the Kenyan media industry. He is popularly known for his great voice that is behind numerous TV commercials. Mwakazi considers his life a miracle. Born in Kibera slums and brought up by a single mum, Mwakazi knew he had no option but to strive for success.
3 Larry Asego
Classic FM’s Larry Asego is also one of Kibera’s exports. The renowned presenter called the slum home for a long time before he found his way to the City’s leafy suburb. He too has never hidden the fact that part of his life was shaped by Kibera.
4 Abel Mutua
Kenyan actor Abel Mutua also grew up in the slams of Kibera…. and his family still lives there.
