Exams drama as high school student is caught sitting for KCPE paper

Despite the tight Security at the ongoing National Examinations, Kenyans are still trying their best to test Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matinag’s charges.A form one student was on Tuesday caught sitting the KCPE examinations at Eburi Primary school center in Kisii.

Vera Reuben, 14, was caught by the sub-county security team on a routine monitoring of the ongoing KCPE. She was registered as a candidate at Scania Academy – a private school.

In a report on the incident,  Police said the Nyabonge secondary school student was registered by her father without her prior knowledge.

Reuben Mogaka, a deputy head teacher at Nyabonge primary, is in police custody.

“She was only informed to go and write the examination by the father after she officially closed for December holidays,” the police report reads.

Vera’s uncle is the brother of Charles Mogaka – the Scania Academy proprietor. He was found marking the class eight pupils attendance register at the latter’s home.

The head teacher of the said academy was also arrested after failing to produce the Standard eight pupils attendance register.

In more examinations news Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i has played down  Kenyans concerns over the ‘heavy militarization of national examinations’.

“It sounds nonsensical. These are some of the silly things some petty people engage in as a country and we waste time on such stupid things, We are providing support to our children to do exams.”

He further added the same will continue ensuring all students and Kenyans at large are secure.

“This is the level of delivery and performance the people of Kenya expect of us. And we will deliver clean exams,” he said.

“We must achieve the 100 per cent transition policy,” said Matiang’i at the Mtwapa Elite Academy in Kilifi county.

The government is keen to ensure all KCPE candidates transit to secondary school with the Free Secondary Education policy in place.

Last year, the Coast region experienced problems after hundreds of students failed to transit to secondary school.

“This time, we are doing things differently. We want to start early,” said the CS.

Has the government done enough to curb examinations irregularities this year?
