Boss Jose Mourinho has been left ‘fuming’ with Ed Woodward after the Manchester United chief cancelled a January transfer target meeting at the last minute, according to reports. We all kow what happens when Morinho is mad.

Mourinho missed out on a number of targets in the summer transfer window with him thought to be keen on Spurs’ Toby Alderweireld, Leicester’s Harry Maguire and Bayern Munich’s Jerome Boateng as he looked for a centre-back.

However, Mourinho had to make do with the options at his disposal and pressure is growing on the Portuguese boss to find the right formula following their slow start to the Premier League season.

Sources  claims the meeting with Woodward was scheduled to happen last week in an attempt to discuss plans for the January transfer window. Woodward told Mourinho ‘at short notice’ that he wouldn’t be coming to the meeting and the situation has left the 55-year-old ‘angry and frustrated’.

Relations between the pair are thought to be strained as it is following a difficult summer in the transfer market. Manchester United will show they are firmly behind Jose Mourinho by allowing him £100m-plus to spend on new players in January

The Portuguese coach failed to sign a central defender and a striker in the summer transfer window with the club not being able to strike a deal for any players on their shortlist.

And the Guardian claims that Mourinho will now be given funds to buy his targets ‘if the right deal is possible.’ The report says that United were willing to spend £100million to bring Raphael Varane to Old Trafford over the summer and that ‘degree of finance’ is still in place.

A number of centre-backs were linked in the last window, including Leicester’s Harry Maguire, Tottenham’s Toby Alderweireld and Bayern Munich’s Jerome Boateng. However, in the cases of Maguire and Boateng, the board reportedly refused to sign them as they weren’t deemed an improvement on the current defenders at Mourinho’s disposal.

It is likely that the same stance will hold in the winter market with only players seen as an upgrade by the hierarchy to be purchased.

Despite Anthony Martial’s resurgence, both Romelu Lukaku and Marcus Rashford have been struggling for goals over the past nine matches with only one between them.

That, coupled with Sanchez’s disappointing form since joining from Arsenal last January, could convince United to spend on a forward. I really hope Woodward does know what he is doing because an irritated Mourinho is not going to be good for the club.Right?
