Central Kenya Throw Mud at DP William Ruto

Will President Uhuru Kenyatta honor the deal he struck with deputy President William Ruto? This is the question that many Kenyans have been asking for months now even as the race for statehouse seem to be already taking shape despite the country just coming from a high volatile election last year.

Cracks seem to have already emerged within the Jubilee camp especially among Mps from the Mount Kenya Region. The Mps were meeting today to chat a political path ahead of the 2022 general elections. It is believed that the leaders from the region are set to finally give their stand on their preferred candidate and consequently embark on a campaign to sensitize their followers on the same.

Nominated senator Isaac Mwaura had earlier hinted that the Mount Kenya region will not support any deal they feel will oppress the people from the area.

Central Kenya is known to be a rich vote basket and any candidate that is able to have the people from this area by his/her side is always assured of a win. From time in memorial, the region is known to vote collectively.

In fact, this is the region that will end up embarrassing even leaders from the region that dare to run against those that have been endorsed by the vast political class. Remember Martha Karua? What of Peter Kenneth?

Central Kenya voters are known loyalists and it is for this and other reasons that the leaders from this areas want to chat a clear political path so as to avoid confusion in the race to the country’s top most seat.

Speaking ahead of the planned Naivasha meeting, Senator Mwaura said that the leaders from Mount Kenya region will critically explore all the available political options before making a concrete decision on the same.

There have been concerns that the Central region has been overlooked by the current administartion, claims that Mwaura said they will address.

Mount Kenya leaders claim that the region has been neglected by  President Uhuru Kenyatta in his development agenda for the country. They claim the number of projects in the area were way too low.

The leaders have said that they should be included in the Big Four Agenda , pushing for the countries development. The Mt. Kenya region leaders have always argued that they played a vital role in making sure that the Jubilee government remains in power.

These sentiments were echoed by Hon. Mwaura who said that the region gave the current regime a large number of votes yet it still lags behind in terms of development.

Deputy President William Ruto has in the recent past been on a developmental tour of various regions. In his tours dubbed “tanga tanga movement,” the Dp has often initiated various multi-million development projects. He was over the past week at Embu County where he initiated various development projects and officially opened completed ones. He opened a Privamnuts EPZ Macadamia Processing Plant in Manyatta. He was also present at the  launch of the University of Embu Endowment Fund and the opening of Prof George Magoha Library in Manyatta, Embu County.

Central leaders seem to want a larger share of the Deputy Presidents goodies with reports suggesting that some members of Parliament from the region have started doubting if the deputy President has the region’s interest at heart.

Ruto seem to have shifted his attention to the Western region with uncertainties over the central regions support towards his 2022 bid gaining momentum.

If the leaders from the region decide to go it alone without DP Ruto, Will the DP stand a chance at the ballot?

Various politicians from the central region like William Kabogo and Peter Kenneth have been rumoured to be eyeing the top seat too. Outspoken Gatundu south MP Moses Kuria has also revealed that he will be on the ballot come 2022. Should this worry the deputy president?

Seasoned political analyst Mutahi Ngunyi has of late changed his political tone. He is known to be a man that does’t just speak without having facts. He pin pointed that William Ruto might be campaigning for a position that will not exist come 2022. He has also indicated earlier that he supports the calls fro referendum, calls that the deputy president and his team don’t want to get answered. Ruto has in the past publicly opposed the push to change the constitution terming a burden to Kenyans and a distraction from development.

It remains to be seen if the Deputy President will survive the Mount Kenya onslaught that is apparently being well crafted to jeopardize his assumption of the country’s top most seat. Do you thin he will? Share with me your views on the comments section
