Is Kenya Taking Notes? Brazil Parades Billions of looted funds

The Fight against corruption has become a pain in the neck with the country continuously loosing millions running into billions to a few corrupt individuals. The body mandated to fight the vice has also done nothing worth talking about in fighting the vice.

Kenyans continue to suffer due to harsh economic conditions mainly caused by the corrupt individuals. Our country has in the recent past been embroiled in serious corruption scandals but no prosecutions have been made on the same. From the Anglo-leasing scandal, the Goldenberg Scandal to the now famous Maize Scandal, the ordinary Kenyan continues to suffer because of the governments negligence.

The President, Uhuru Kenyatta, has constantly reiterated that his government is committed in fighting corruption and bringing the corrupt officials to book. Kenyans want results and not just cheap talk. It is time the President acted and dealt with the vice once and for all. It is a free corrupt system that will actually enable him achieve his much hyped Big 4 Agenda.

Kenya should therefore learn from Brazil, a country that has also been hit by various corruption scandals. Brazil’s corruption is on a high but at least the country is doing something about it.

Country officials paraded over $4 Billion recovered from corrupt officials for the country to see.

The Kenyan government too has been challenged to show Kenyans the loot it has recovered from corrupt officials. If not, the government should confiscate properties and all assets belonging to the corrupt individuals.

Our courts should also speed up corruption cases and avoid giving out lame excuses such as “there was no sufficient evidence” just to let corruption suspects walk scot free.

Investigating agencies led by the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission, DCI and Office of the Director of Public prosecutions should work closely and conduct thorough investigations in corruption cases.

Kenyans reacted to the above video with may calling for the government to follow suit in a bid to ensure corruption is a thing of the past.
