Obado Promises to Direct His Services to Migori People and Not to SlayQueens

Migori Governor Okoth Obado has hit the ground running just days after being released on bail by high court judge Jessie Lesiit. Obado has already got back to work and has promised to work for the great people of Migori County after being away from the county for over a month as he was a guest of the state back in Nairobi at the Industrial Area Remand Prison.

Obado also promised to abide by the set bail conditions.

The governor was barred from travelling anywhere within 20 kilometres of Homa Bay county boundary.

The court also barred the county boss from adjourning the case, witness intimidation, and intimidation of the late Sharon Otieno’s parents. He was also ordered to deposit his travel documents and diplomatic passports to the court.

The governor also called on leaders, regardless of their political or ethnic affiliations to embrace peace and unity so that they steer the development agenda of Migori County together.

“Let me take this opportunity to thank the People of Migori, Members of the County Assembly of Migori, the Staff of the County Government of Migori, my supporters, my legal team, friends and my family for standing with me during this trying moment. I also thank the court for listening to our request and granting me the bail. This has now given me opportunity to effectively work for the people of Migori as their governor. I promise to respect the court and abide by the conditions it set. I urge all our leaders, regardless of their political or ethnic affiliations, to embrace peace and unity so that as a family we steer forward the development agenda of our county.
Thank you so much; may God bless you all,” said Obado.

Obado’s return to Migori county will surely be good news to Migori County residents that have for weeks witnessed poor delivery of services from county officials who got relaxed at work since the County Chief was not around.

Obado’s brother in law, Samuel Omunga who was the County’s Chief Finance officer was also interdicted in his absence.

Omuga has since moved to Kisumu Labour Relations Court to quash the decision.

Obado has an uphill task to regain the love and trust of his party ODM, a party he has in many occasions gone against with the most recent incident being during the senatorial by-elections.

Obado publicly endorsed Eddy Oketch and openly campaigned against ODM’s candidate Ochillo Ayacko who later won the seat. It will be interesting to see how Mr. Obado will work with Ayacko who he has never been a fan of in the first place. It will be remembered that Obado and Ayacko have had their differences way before the Sharon Murder case and the subsequent by-elections.

Obado’s co-accused Michael Oyamo (personal assistant) and Migori County Clerk Caspal Obiero remained in custody after being denied bail. Judge Lesiit ruled that the release of Oyamo and Obiero would cause fear and anxiety among members of the public. She also cited security concerns as part of the reasons why the two will remain at the Industrial Area Remand Prison.
