It seems like there’s a polio vaccine almost every week in the country. Is there an outbreak or something. Kids are getting the vaccine almost everywhere they go. At home, there’s a dosage, at school there’s someone there to administer the ‘chanjo’
Recently, I heard that the vaccine has even been introduced in church. This is very different from our days when we were vaccinated only once.
Parents have expressed concern over serious side effects they claim their children manifest after getting the new round of the recently concluded polio vaccination.
Marion Katabi, an accountant in Nairobi says on Wednesday her two-year-old son got suddenly sick. The boy started vomiting, shivering and sweating. At the hospital, a series of tests were done, but had nothing conclusive. She was given antibiotics and told to monitor the child as more tests are done.
Marion suspects her son’s health has been affected by polio vaccination. “From Tuesday evening when he was given that drop, he became irritable. I assumed it is a mild side effect, but things have gotten more serious,” she says
On social media, many parents registered concern and associated the effects to the vaccine, saying they started noticing a change in their children immediately after they were vaccinated.
Last night my 4 year old son vomited for no apparent reason.

Another parent also complained about the Kienyeji way in which the dose is administered without parental consent and reference to previous dosages.
Wish every child had a record sheet on a laptop carried by the hawkers so that the record is clear.

It is unethical for minors to be cornered even on the playground and vaccinated by people whose level of professionalism cannot even be substantiated.
Let there be order. Even in church parental consent is required. Same thing at home an adult must be present. Plus they put indelible ink to reduce chances of getting repeats in the same cycle
