After missing out on graduation last year, Deputy President William Ruto today defended his Doctorate thesis at the University of Nairobi.
Ruto failed to graduate last year with a doctorate degree from UoN after he failed to meet some ‘standards’ in his academic performance. Ruto, who has been pursuing a PhD at the University of Nairobi, said the reason he was unsuccessful in his studies last year was because he had not met some ‘standards’ and ‘requirements’.

His thesis focused on the impact of human activities on riparian reserves at Saiwa Swamp, in Trans Nzoia County.
The Deputy President is now expected to graduate in Decemer this year if he satisfies the University council.
He has been working on his PhD since 2012 before he became the deputy president.
He was today late for the graduation ceremony at the Kenya Technical Training College because he was apparently in class defending his thesis.
“I wished to have been with you earlier but I was called by the head of department School of Biological Science, The University of Nairobi. I am a student there and you know as a student your lecturer comes first. I had to go there first to defend my thesis,” said Ruto.
If Ruto finally graduates, he will join a list of other learned Kenyan politicians led by Prof. Anyang Nyong’o. Others include, Prof. Paul Chepkwony, Prof. Kivutha Kibwana and Prof. Kithure Kindiki.
