Three Kenyans Nominated for IAAF Athletics Awards

It’s a great day for Kenya as three of our very own athletes, Eliud Kipchoge, Timothy Cheruiyot and Emmanuel Korir are now among the 10 nominees for 2018 IAAF Male Athlete of the Year ahead of the IAAF Athletics Awards to be held in Monaco on Tuesday 4 December.

Timothy Cheruiyot World won the silver medal at the 2017 World Championships in the 1500 meters event, Eliud Kipchoge is the current marathon world record holder with a time of 2 hours 1 minute 39 seconds and Emmanuel Korir  set the indoor world record for 600 meters in 2017 and is ranked the sixth fastest athlete over 800 meters of all time.

IAAF has announced a three-way voting process that will determine the finalists. According to the international governing body for the sport of athletics, the IAAF Council and the IAAF Family will cast their votes by email, while fans can vote online via the IAAF’s social media platforms.

On the Instagram and Facebook platofrms, a ‘like’ will be considered as a vote while on Twitter, a ‘retweet’ will count as as a vote. The IAAF Council’s vote will count for 50% of the result, while the IAAF Family’s votes and the public votes will each count for 25% of the final result.

Individual graphics for each nominee will be posted on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram. Voting for the Male World Athlete of the Year closes on 13 November and at the end of the voting process, five men and five women finalists will be announced by the IAAF.

The male and female World Athletes of the Year will be announced live on stage at the IAAF Athletics Awards 2018.
