18 coal miners still trapped in a tunnel in China’s eastern Shandong province as the death toll to three after one of the miners who was rescued died while receiving treatment
The miners were trapped after a rock burst at the Longyun Coal Mining Company in Yuncheng County at around 11 p.m. on Saturday.
More than 300 people were working inside the mine at the time of the rock burst, and most were successfully lifted to safety.
The incident destroyed part of a water drainage tunnel in the coal mine, killing two and trapping another 20 workers, the official Xinhua news agency reported.
Rock burst accidents are often caused by fractures in rocks due to mining.
More than 170 rescue workers are trying to free 18 coal miners trapped in a tunnel in China’s eastern Shandong province, according to state broadcaster CCTV.
The accident happened in Shandong province late Saturday night after a rock burst destroyed part of a mining tunnel.
The official Xinhua News Agency said part of a water drainage tunnel was destroyed in the burst, and that two people were killed by fractured rocks that fell in the tunnel.
