Sirkal! Gor Mahia books date with Brazilians

Kenya Premier League champions will host Brazilian side Santos FC in an international friendly this year.

According to Gor Mahia’s Secretary General Ben Omondi, the high profile match will be played on 1st December just a week before the start of the league.

The news is even sweetened by the fact that it is the Brazil side that contacted K’ogallo requesting for the friendly with the Kenyan giants. A formal inquiry was addressed to the club chairman Ambrose Rachier.

Gor are set to travel to the UK, for another high profile friendly with English Premier League side Everton FC at the Goodison Park. The trip has been sponsored by giant betting firm Sportpesa, who sponsor both teams.

They also played English Championship side Hull City in May this year and Santos will be the third foreign team they have faced this year.

In accepting the request from the Brasileiro giants, Rachier has constituted a team to work on the logistics including ticketing information and will soon issue a public update regarding the historic match.

“We are telling Kenyans to expect a big friendly never before staged in East Africa and this will be a good experience for our boys and for our fans,” Omondi told Ramogi FM.

Santos is the former club of PSG’s Brazilian superstar Neymar Jr and is one of the most successful clubs in the Brasileirao, becoming national champions on eight occasions.

The last time a Brazilian team was in Kenya was in 2009 when a select squad of former internationals from the South American state lost 1-0 to Harambee Stars during a charity tour organized by the Association of Evangelicals in Africa (AEA).
