Slain Business woman Monica Kimani’s brother has moved to the High court to stop it from granting Joseph Irungu bail with claims that he poses a danger to their lives.
In his sworn affidavit, George Kimani pleaded to the court not to grant Mr. Irungu bail since he knows where he lived. He also claimed that her sister’s murder could have been an onslaught against his family.
“The fact that the motive of my sister’s murder is unknown poses a greater danger to the family since we are not sure whether it could have been an onslaught against our family, which began with my sister,” said Mr Kimani.
Mr. Kimani swore an affidavit on behalf of the family, stating that even though Irungu and Maribe had a right to bail, the court should consider the rights of the family which now lives in fear given the circumstances under which her sister was killed.
In the affidavit, he also claimed that Irungu was familiar with where he lived and he was not a total stranger to his family.
He stated that it would be premature to release Citizen TV journalist Jacque Maribe and her boyfriend, as police were still looking for another person believed to have been with Irungu the night Monica was killed.
Maribe and Irungu have since pleaded not guilty to the murder charge and their plead to be granted bail will be determined on October 24.Maribe has narrated to the court how a stranger tried to interrogate her while she was held at the Gigiri Police Station.
Maribe and her fiance Joseph ‘Jowie’ Irungu appeared in court on Wednesday where Justice James Wakiaga set Wednesday next week as the hearing date for their bail applications.
She made the revelations to counter the prosecution’s concerns that she should be denied bail on the guise that her life is in danger from third parties.
According to Maribe in an affidavit she said, “I suspect K.K. Omondi was planted by C.Insp.M. Otieno…to investigate and extract information. He probably thought I had something I was holding back whilst in fact I had disclosed everything.”
