Jose Mourinho is set to back-track by giving the nod to Anthony Martial’s new five-year Old Trafford deal.
The forward was on the brink of being sold in the summer after reportedly falling out with the manager.Linked with moves to Tottenham and Chelsea, the Frenchman’s days at Manchester United seemed numbered. But in an incredible u-turn, Martial is soon to sign a new £130,000-per-week deal, according to the Sun.
The 22-year-old has impressed the Portuguese after getting his head down this season.
The United boss was angry in the summer that the forward didn’t fly back to the US for their pre-season tour following the birth of his child.
“He has the baby – beautiful baby, full of health, thank god,” he said in July. “But he should be here, and he is not here.”
The relationship between player and manager appear to have improved so much that Mourinho believes Martial is close to re-finding the form which made him an instant hit when he signed back in 2015.
He could play a part against Chelsea this weekend, although Marcus Rashford’s form for England in Spain on Monday night may see his impact be only from the bench.
United need the points in west London with the club in 8th place – some seven points behind joint leaders Manchester City, Chelsea and Liverpool already.
