Blow for Manchester United as midfielder returns injured, doubtful for Chelsea clash

Nemanja Matic remains a doubt for Manchester United ahead of the trip to Chelsea on Saturday, British Media reports.

The midfielder withdrew from the Serbia squad for the Nations League matches against Montenegro and Romania last week due to a back injury. Matic, who has featured eight times for United this season, has been undergoing treatment at the club’s Carrington training base.

Luke Shaw is also continuing his recovery from the injury which saw him withdraw from the England squad ahead of the Nations League matches against Croatia and Spain.

Marcus Rashford and David De Gea are expected to return to training on Wednesday after playing in England’s 3-2 victory over Spain in Seville on Monday.

Paul Pogba, Romelu Lukaku, Marouane Fellaini, Victor Lindelof, Fred and Eric Bailly are all in international action on Tuesday for their respective nations.

The Red Devils are currently eight on the table with 13 points, their worst points tally at this stage of a season since Sir Alex Ferguson retired. they face a tough run of fixture in the coming weeks where they travel to face Chelsea at Stamford Bridge on Satrurday before preparing for a crunch Champions League tie with Juventus just three days later.
