Keino, Wario due in Court on Friday over rio Olympics Scandal

Anti-Corruption court Chief Magistrate Douglas Ogoti has directed former Sports Cabinet Secretary Hassan Wario to appear in court on Friday, October 19 alongside former National Olympic Committee of Kenya (NOCK) President Kipchoge Keino.

Wario has been summoned to appear in court over the 2016 Rio Olympics scandal in which Ksh.55 million was misappropriated.

Wario, who is currently Kenya’s ambassador to Austria, is set to face graft charges alongside other Ministry of Sports officials implicated in the misappropriation of funds that were set aside for the Rio Olympic games.

The former CS and Kipchoge Keino were expected to appear in court on Monday together with former Principal Secretary Richard Ekai, the then Rio Games Chief De Mission Stephen Soi and NOCK Secretary General Francis Kinyili.

Ekai who on Monday in appeared in court  together with the then Rio Games Chief De Mission Stephen Soi and the National Olympic Committee of Kenya Secretary General Francis Kinyili pleaded not guilty to the charges.

However, their lawyers immediately lodged applications for bail pending the hearing of the case.

They are charged with making unauthorised payments, over-payment of allowances amounting to over Ksh.15 million and purchasing tickets worth Ksh.22 million which were not used by athletes or officials in the trip that was full of joyriders.
