The County Government of West Pokot was also not left behind in celebrating their own, referring to Sarah as the ‘epitome of class.’
Huge congratulations our @MissTourism_Ke 2018!
From the very start, you carried yourself with grace and dignity!

This year’s event was held at the Safari Park Hotel and according to the online community, it did not seem like a well organized event as Kenyans on Twitter threw shade at the DJ and MC.
Who on earth organized this #MissTourismKenya thing? Apart from the DJ having no idea what he's doing, machines being on their death bed, funny noises from wherever some mic is, the boring MCEES just introduced Judith Ojaamong as Julia Ojiambo. @StandardKenya @KTNKenya

The Beauty Pageants from the Counties deserved a better organized competition. Poor DJ, uncoordinated MCs who seem unprepared. #MissTourismKenya

However, it wasn’t all complaints. Kenyans came out to celebrate and congratulate the newly crowned Miss Tourism Kenya for embracing her melanin and showing the world that black is beautiful.
Congratulations Miss West Pokot's Sarah Pkyach – U are a true CHAMPION!!!💃💯🔥 Finally, Melanin has been restored in the Kenyan culture. Be natural, Lesson Learnt – Don't use make up to win someone (boychild) or something (miss tourism).#MissTourismKenya pic.twitter.com/EbmoXJzr5W

You can win beauty contest with your melanin intact. Most African ladies are born black but die white. Sarah Pkyach is real ambassador of African melanin. Congratulations to Sarah Pkyach#MissTourismKenya pic.twitter.com/hivyfvPZrl

Sarah, who is currently the reigning Miss JKUAT, Miss West Pokot County and now, Miss Tourism Kenya is expected to represent Kenya in Malaysia.
Miss Tourism Kenya was started by Mary Ann Wanja, the Managing Director of Vera Beauty College, which offers training courses modelling, hair and beauty. The beauty pageant seeks to consciously promote integration and cohesion of Kenya’s culture.
The auditions are usually held at the Ward, Sub-County and County levels and the winners from the counties then proceed to battle it out and represent their counties on a national level.
