Wanyama issues a rallying cry to Harambee Stars fans as history beckons

Harambee Stars captain Victor Wanyama is confident that the team can beat any opponent if the crowd rallies behind the Kenya national team like it happened at Bahir Dar during their game against Ethiopia.

The stadium which officially has a capacity of 60,000 was filled to capacity as Ethiopia hosted Harambee Stars in an African Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifier on Wednesday 10 October.

Despite home fans thronging the stadium, the hosts couldn’t conjure a win as the clash ended goalless, with the point gained pushing Harambee Stars top of Group F.

Wanyama admits it was a surprise for him seeing such an attendance and believes such a turnout in the return leg set for Sunday 14 October at Moi International Sports Centre Kasarani (MISC) can motivate the side to pick maximum points.

“I have never seen such a crowd. It was an unbelievable crowd since the largest I have seen before while in Europe is 80,000 to 90,000. If we can have such a crowd back at home then it will inspire us to beat any team,” he said.

To achieve a similar crowd, on Sunday the government through the sports ministry has announced free entry for the clash.
