Uhuru Is Expected at Kamaru’s burial Thursday

President Uhuru Kenyatta will join leaders and fans of musician Joseph Kamaru at the latter’s burial in Lahari village, Kigumo Constituency Wednesday.

Murang’a County Commissioner John Elungata visited the burial site and said everything is in order.

“We expect the President to join us. Everything, including security, is okay and we will do everything to ensure the ceremony ends well,” the county chief told the Nation by phone Wednesday.

Leaders and businesspeople have been flocking to the musician’s city home in Thome to pay their last respects.

Royal Media Services chairman SK Macharia and businessman Peter Munga are among those who have been at the home.

Murang’a Governor Mwangi wa iria, Murang’a ward representatives and Keroche Breweries MD Tabitha Karanja also visited the musician’s Nairobi home on Thursday.

Artistes have been meeting at the home as they prepare to give one of their own a befitting send-off.

Governor Iria and Gatundu South MP Moses Kuria have invited music lovers at Golden Palm Inn in Kenol town where Mr Kamaru’s songs will be played all night long.

Mr Kamaru was born in Kangema in 1939 and married Ms Susan Wangari and Ms Teresia Wanjiku.

He started his career in 1957 and his music addressed social, political and economic matters. Mr Kamaru interacted with presidents Jomo Kenyatta and Daniel arap Moi.

He accompanied Mr Moi to Japan in 1980 after which the crooner composed “Safari ya Japan”.

Mr Kamaru also performed during the wedding reception of President Uhuru Kenyatta and his wife Margaret in 1990.
