An Administration Police officer attached to Othoro Police Post in Suna East sub-county, Migori County was on Wednesday found dead on Ogwedhi market.
The officer is said to have committed suicide after disappearing from his house on the night of Tuesday.
Citizen digital reported that the officer was part of the team assigned to escort election material in the concluded Migori by elections which saw ODM Party’s Ochilo Ayacko win.
Area chief Wilis Ogwada said the AP officer hang himself with a piece of rope from a tree branch.
Mr. Ogwada said they are yet to establish why the officer took his own life, however, he noted that the cop exuded slight symptoms of mental illness on Tuesday and was taken to St. Joseph Omboo Mission Hospital by his wife alongside another police officer. He was treated with malaria and discharged.
However, after he was taken home he disappeared later in the night, leaving behind his wife and child.
The wife and fellow police officers searched for him during the night before his body was found on Wednesday morning hanging from a tree.
