Former MP Nyarangi Moturi Dies while being rushed to hospital

Former North Mugirango Member of Parliament (MP) Nyarangi Moturi died on Wednesday morning. Moturi, who also served as an assistant minister, was reportedly being rushed to a hospital in Nairobi. The ex-legislator and veteran Gusii politician was popularly known as ‘Esirori Nyamaguta’.

His tenure as the Mugirango/Borabu legislator ran between 1988 and 1992. In 2013, the late MP unsuccessful contested the Nyamira Senatorial seat where he lost to Kennedy Mong’are.

Moturi was a Business Administration (BBA) holder from Hope College, Michigan, USA. Nyamira Governor John Nyagarama stated, “My condolences to the family of the fallen hero Hon. Nyarangi Moturi, former MP North Mugirango, Nyamira County.”

ODM Treasurer Timothy Bosire termed Moturi’s death as ‘shocking’ adding that he’ll be remembered for pushing for the creation of Nyamira District in 1991.

“He’s one of the pioneers of Nyamira District now a county. The death has really caught me by shock,” Bosire stated.

Borabu MP Ben Momanyi hailed Moturi as courageous adding, “I was a little bit young but he was courageous. His leadership skills were above board and am sorry for the loss.”

Is an attempt to capture a Senate seat in the 2013 elections failed?

Moturi is the founder of Chama Cha Mwananchi, which he formed months before the 2013 election. The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission split the North Mugirango/ Borabu constituency into North Mugirango and Borabu in 2012.

Until his death, Moturi was running his businesses in Amakara, Borabu, and Nairobi. Nyamira woman representative Jerusha Momanyi sent a message of condolences to his family. In an interview with the Star, she said he was a dedicated leader. Momanyi said Moturi fought for the interest of the people.

“We have lost a great leader in the North Mugirango and Nyamira as a whole. It is so painful but we have to bare it, ” she said
