Other than the 27-year old Okech, other contestants were Samuel Otieno, Dickson Ogola, Peter Jobando and Solomon Hodo.

Elgeyo Marakwet Senator Kipchumba Murkomen termed Oketch as a “bold and courageous young man who is giving Baba (Raila) sleepless nights.”

The Migori Senate seat fell vacant after the death of Ben Oluoch on June 19 after a long illness.

Migori County has 388,633 registered voters with 38% of them taking part in the election.

Ayako has been training his eyes on elective politics which saw him turn down a recent appointment by President Uhuru Kenyatta as an envoy.

“I want to serve my people in Migori County in an elective position. I, however, thank the President for the honour and respect,” Ayako stated when rejecting the appointment.
