Jacque Maribe’s dad Mr Mwangi Maribe, has opened up on the woes facing her daughter. For the first since his daughter was arrested alongside her lover, Mr Joseph Irungu, over the murder of Monica Kimani

While speaking in a phone interview Mr. Maribe said, “Police want to become famous by nailing a celebrity. That is why my daughter is in custody. Her neighbour, Brian Kassaine, also has a partner. Why is she not in custody? Her biggest mistake was falling in love.”

He further added saying that if his daughter testified against those arrested with her life would be in danger.

“The day after Monica’s murder, my daughter read the same piece of news at Citizen. How callous can she be to participate in a murder and have the courage to read the news? That is not the girl we raised,” he said.

According to DCI Kinoti,  he intends to charge Ms Maribe with an offence related to the murder.

Police have previously said that clothes, which they believe may have been worn during the murder, were burnt near Ms Maribe’s house. She may also have lied to police about Mr Irungu’s movements and the cause of his injury. This has however made her an accessory to murder of Ms. Kimani

“He may not have committed the crime alone. The man has deep connections with shadowy people. His accomplices may be out there and may go after my daughter if she testifies against him. She could live in fear for the rest of her life,” he said.

Mr Maribe admitted that Mr Irungu was his daughter’s boyfriend, but claimed they were not in good terms.

According to Mr. Maribe, “She asked Irungu to return her car keys and ATM card. Even when they went back to the house, Jacque threw some of his clothes out. The man threatened to kill himself after Jacque said she would leave him. He borrowed a gun and shot himself.”

Earlier Ms. Maribe told police that Mr Irungu was shot by a gang outside while asked why his daughter gave contradicting report to police regarding the incident, Mr Maribe attributed it to love.

“She may have felt responsible for his attempted suicide. At that time, she did not know about Monica and her connections to Irungu,” said Mr Maribe.

Mr Maribe, a two time Kiharu constituency parliamentary aspirant, said he knew Mr Irungu since he had visited his home with Ms Maribe twice or thrice but he had no idea where he worked. “She is an adult and I was not following much about their relationship. I even heard of their engagement over the media,” said Mr Maribe.

On her status at the police station, Mr Maribe said he visited her on Friday and that she was in good health, relaxed and “her conscience clean as she was innocent”.

She said given the way he brought her up, she was “disciplined” and not the type of a girl who could sit down to plan any crime, leave alone murder. “If she had bad manners, she could not have reached to the levels where she is right now,” he said of his daughter’s career.
