The house of Blues , Dallas , Texas , USA was the host for this years AFRIMMA , which is short for the African Muzik Magazine Awards. This years AFRIMMA was held on October 8 and was a celebration of pure African talent.
The show was hosted by Bight Okpocha , better known by his stage name Basketmouth and Chipukeezy , was a gathering of the best in African music , from Tiwa savage to Fally Ipupa.

The organizers pride themselves on the fact that AFRIMMA is the only award ceremony in the Diaspora that caters for all musical genres including Afrobeats , Assiko, Bongo, Decale, Funana, Genge, Highlife, Hiplife , Kwaito, Lingala and Soukous.
Nigerian music stars topped the winning chat at the 2017 AFRIMMA with likes of Davido, Wizkid and Tiwa Savage. who have struggled to put African music on the chat.
Among this years AFRIMMA winners were south Africa record producer Cassper Nyovest, Nigerian rapper Folarin Fulana, also known as Falz and the Tanzanian singer Diamond Platnumz.
Falz for the first time received the award for the best Male Artist of the year. Nigerian hip-hop artist Olamide took the same award in the previous year with Tecno’s song Duro winning the song of the year.
Video director Oladapo Fagbenle professionally known as Daps won the best Director award , and Dj tunez of Nigeria won the category of foreign catergory.
Khaligraph Jones from Kenya won the best rap Act and Papa Dennis also won the best upcoming gospel artist of the year. This comes after Sauti Sol also from Kenya having bagged an award in the previous AFRIMMA awards.
Yemi Alade from Nigeria won the best female artist of the year. Yemi alade has been doing a number of good music both local and internationally. She is currently being referred to as mama Africa.
Ykee Benda AKA the eagle won the best Newcomers Act of the year.
Fally Ipupa also bagged the the Leadership Award and Artist of the year. The Congolese has been in the music industry for quite a long time and has been producing a lot of good music. The singer has received including a BET nomination which makes him one of the musical legends.
The nominees , according to Ekukole one of the members of AFRIMMA from Cameroon , were picked on production quality , talent and creativity , melody , originality and authenticity as well as composition and arrangement.
The awards bring talents from all over Africa with the aim of appreciating their good efforts in the music industry. The awards recognize different talents and places them on the international platforms.
They hosted each and every year with the aim of awarding exemplary talents in Fashion and music industry all over Africa.
