Citizen TV anchor Jacque Maribe is set to face murder charges over the brutal murder of Monica Kimani. According to The Star, DCI George Kinoti confirmed that the evidence gathered in the case have implicated that Maribe was indirectly involved. Section 222 of the Penal Code Accessory after the fact to murder states that any person who becomes an accessory after the fact to murder is guilty of a felony and is liable to imprisonment for life.

“We know that she helped Irungu cover up the offence by burning the clothes that he wore when he committed the crime. We also have evidence pointing to her involvement in the crime,” stated Kinoti.

According to the police, Maribe will also face charges of illegal handling of a fire arm after a 9mm live bullet was recovered from her bedroom.

The bullet is linked to the gun used by Joe Irungu in a failed suicide attempt after claims of a disagreement with his fiancée.

Kinoti on Friday disregarded claims that the news anchor was forced or threatened to record her initial statement.

“Days after she helped Irungu destroy the evidence, she did not report the incident until Police arrested her.We believe she was part of the cover up,” remarked the Head of the DCI office.

The court on October 1 ruled that the prolific journalist would remain in police custody for an extra 10 days to allow the officers to conclude their investigations.

Maribe, who doubles up as a news anchor and reporter, is set to appear in court on October 11 to learn her fate.
