Pastor charged with conning hardware Sh15 million worth of goods

A Nairobi pastor has been arrested and charged in court with obtaining money by false pretence.

Samuel Maingi Mwangi is alleged to have fraudulently obtained assorted hardware goods worth Sh15, 472,779 from Tuffsteel Company on diverse dates between April 24 and 28 last year.

Police said the accused pretended that he was in a position to pay for the goods.

According to police, Mwangi, who is the director of Saris Hardware and runs a church in Kitengela, approached Tuffsteel and requested to be supplied with assorted goods.

Mwangi was reportedly supplied with the goods worth millions of shillings and issued with invoices to that effect.

The pastor is said to have issued post-dated cheques as payment for the goods.

Police said the Mwangi’s bank account did not have sufficient funds to clear the payment, with all the cheques drawn in the hardware’s name.

The company was forced to report the matter to the police leading to the pastor’s arrest.

Mwangi however denied the charges in court. He was released on a Sh2 million cash bail or surety bond of Sh4 million.

The case will be heard on January 24, 2019.
