Arsenal boss Unai Emery has been nominated for the Premier League manager of the month award.
Emery has led the Gunners to eight wins in a row in all competitions – including all four Premier League matches in September.Arsenal saw off Cardiff , Newcastle , Everton and Watford last month to climb to fifth in the table.
He is up for the award with Pep Guardiola and Jurgen Klopp, who face off at Anfield on Sunday, and Wolves boss Nuno Espirito Santo. City and Liverpool sit first and second in the Premier League table ahead of this weekend’s clash.
City won all four matches last month, conceding just one goal to Newcastle.
There were also impressive wins over Fulham , Cardiff and Brighton . The shortlist is completed by Wolves boss Nuno, who has taken the newly-promoted side to ninth in the table.Wolves enjoyed wins over West Ham , Burnley and Southampton and picked up a fine point at Old Trafford.
Emery’s preparations are meticulous. They are tailored to each opponent, with the use of video analysis key, and they begin with an hour-long debrief from the previous game.
On a big screen, every mistake is pinpointed, along with the good bits. Players are encouraged to see why a particular option is best – ‘If this pass is played, it will open up here and here; this teammate has been told to stand there for you.’
Post-match, players will get statistical breakdowns on their performances and before the next one, in addition to the hour-long group video session, they can receive one-on-one briefings and information on their direct opponents.
At his previous clubs, Emery edited the clips himself. “For every game we play, I might have spent 12 hours working on the video alone,” he said in 2015, when at Sevilla. “In an hour, the players have to understand everything you have seen in 12 hours.”
Arsenal will travel to face London rivals Fulham in the Premier League on Sunday.
