Sharon Otieno’s mother seeks County Intervention

Melida Auma, the mother to the slain Rongo University Student Sharon Otieno has sought intervention from Migori County Government in up-keeping her family.

Sharon met a gruesome murder in Homa Bay after been abducted alongside nation media journalist Barrack Oduor.

Sharon’s mother claims that her slain daughter was the only bread winner to the family and they have now been rendered hopeless after her death.

Ms Auma now wants the county government of Migori to intervene since the deceased left three children which has become a task for her.

“As a family, we have been rendered hopeless since our only provider, Sharon is no more. Migori County Government should intervene and provide for me the way Sharon has been doing. We are ready to accept any assistance from anywhere since Am left with Sharon’s Children and they need upkeep which was being provided by the deceased,” she was quoted.

Ms Auma noted that she is willing to accept help from well wishers in order to take care of the children. She was the first to highlight the relationship between Governor Okoth Obado and her daughter. She even claimed that her daughter was in love with the governor.

Obado is the prime suspect in the murder case after it emerged that Sharon carried his pregnancy which DNA tests revealed.

His aides among them his Personal Assistant Michael Oyamo and a clerk Caspal Obiero have also been arrested and charged with murder.

Barrack Oduor had revealed that it was Oyamo who handed them to abductors who killed Sharon.

The journalist said that he managed to jump out of the moving vehicle after sensing danger.

The Migori governor is currently being remanded at the Industrial area prison awaiting to be presented in court.

He pleaded not guilty to the murder of the 26 year old woman and will be arraigned in court again on 8 October for ruling into his bail application which he has been denied twice.

On Sunday details emerged that Obado was being given a special treatment at the prison, claims the police denied.

The Commissioner General of Prisons Isaya Osugo denied claims that Homa Bay Governor Okoth Obado is receiving preferential treatment in remand as alleged in sections of the media.

Reports also indicated that contrary to prison rules, the governor is wearing his home clothes and not remand uniform for murder suspects, claims Osugo has denied.

Osugo noted that Obado has not been receiving any special treatment in terms of accommodation, feeding and visits as alleged since the services are regulated in accordance to Prison regulations.

He further noted that Obado has only been allowed to wear home clothes when appearing to court, that has happened only once.

“During production to court, Hon Obado, like other inmates awaiting trial is allowed to put on his home clothes and when returned back to custody put on prison uniform,” he adds.

Sharon Otieno is yet to be buried.
