Why Gor Mahia coach is afraid of the transfer window

Gor Mahia FC head coach Dylan Kerr is afraid that the side might lose a big number of players in the upcoming transfer window.

There are reports that a big number of players lead by skipper Harun Shakava following the trouble at the club that has seen their allowances delay.

“A lot of shipping is going to happen during the transfer window definitely. I am disappointed with what has been happening at the club in the past few weeks. We haven’t been professional and I am not happy.” Kerr said after the match.

“We got the point but we should have won the match and celebrated with the fans because that is what coronation is all about but we spoilt it. However, credit to Mathare United, they kept going and deserve the point.” He added

“However on the second goal Joash Onyango should have done better. He is an experienced player and he knows what should be done. He got caught off position and I just don’t know what he was thinking when committing the foul that led to the penalty,”

A 2-2 draw against Mathare United has marred Gor Mahia’s coronation ceremony at Moi Stadium, Kisumu on September 30th, 2018.

Gor Mahia were handed the Kenyan Premier League title after a successful campaign that saw them defend the title. But recent results and off-pitch issues haven’t  been of any service to the team recently. This is their 17th title in their history of existence.

Jacques Tuyisenge was ruled out for offside in the 5th minute after being set clear from midfield. Humphrey Mieno, Francis Kahata and George Odhiambo had a fine combination before the picking the top scorer inside Mathare’s area.

It did not take long for the Rwandese to find his 14th league as he beat an offside trap, Mathare center-backs and finally slot home after also going round Job Ochieng in goal in the 8th minute. Raphael Asudi took credit for the creation of the goal with a sumptuous long pass that Tuyisenge just collected and put Gor in the steering wheel of the match.

Cliff Nyakeya was denied by Fredrick Odhiambo who left his line to close in on Mathare’s talisman before he could take any meaningful shot. Nyakeya was picked out by Chrispin Oduor. Odhiambo’s clearance went just as far as where James Situma was but the former Tusker and Kakamega Homeboyz fullback took a shot that went wide in the 13th minute.

Clifford Alwanga attempted quite an ambitious long-range shot but Odhiambo in the 20th minute. Alwnga’s turn and how he clinically took the shot was equally noticeable as Odhiambo’s save

Samwel Olwande saved Ochieng some more blushes as he raced down to clear from the line. Kahata and Tuyisenge dilly-dallied in midfield before the later sprayed quite a pass to Guikan who after going round Ochieng took a shot but was devastated to see Olwande makes the timely clearance just five minutes to half-hour break. Both sets of players were allowed to take a few minutes water break to beat the high temperatures at the lakeside region.

Blackberry was not lucky again after leaving dead Situma and co Slum Boys defenders but his last drive just got wide in the 35th minute. Ochieng read Odhiambo’s intentions and raced to close him down thus forcing him to shoot off target.

After he found himself free inside Mathare’s box, Humphrey Mieno just turned to fire past Ochieng in the 53rd minute. The double for Gor came after Kahata delivered a corner ball into the box and the visitors failed to clear in time.

Daniel Mwaura’s 67th minute cross to Omulanga was as fine as one to help the Slum Boys pull one for themselves after really dominating proceedings in the second half. Omulanga just composed himself to steer the ball into the back of the net to the consternation of the league champions.

Ten minutes to the end of regular time, Mathare restored parity after Nyakeya converted successfully from the spot. Omulanga had been brought down by Joash Onyango inside the box and Davies Omweno had no options but to point the spot for Mathare’s penalty.
