Why Aubameyang is just like Thierry Henry

Arsenal legend Martin Keown has likened Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang to former Thierry Henry.

This is after the Gabon international netted a brace in Arsenal’s 4-2 victory over Vorskla Poltava on Thursday night in Europa League. The Gunners controlled the entire match but once again failed to keep a clean sheet as they conceded two late goals something which concerns boss Unai Emery. The former Paris Saint Germain boss did, however, have a silver lining to savour in the form of Aubameyang, who displayed the kind of lethal touch in front of goal to evoke memories of his French predecessor.

The 29-year-old who wears jersey number 14 just like Henry when he was at Arsenal, had good game netting twice and his performance left Keown with one player in his mind.

“I really liked that from Aubameyang. The way he drifted in and curls the ball with his right foot, it reminded me of Henry and that’s a massive compliment,” he said.

“There’s a kind of swagger about him and maybe now he will start to believe in himself. I think it’s important for Arsenal to have a player like him, who has that blistering pace and movement. He is following greats like Henry and ([Ian] Wright. He’s been a bit of a slow burner but he is getting his confidence again and there’s a certain kind of arrogance about him now and I believe he has got the talent. He was the good news for Arsenal tonight,” he added.
