Reprieve to motorists as Consumers Prepare to spend more

Motorists have gotten a sigh of relieve after the Energy Regulatory Commission (ERC) announced lower fuel prices following the revision of the VAT tax on petroleum products from 16 per cent to eight per cent.

This follows the signing into law of the 2018 finance bill on Friday by President Uhuru Kenyatta which was on Thursday passed in the parliament through a chaotic voting.

ERC Director General Pavel Oimeke said the new prices are set to take effect on Friday 21st September 2018 to 14th ctober 2018.

Petrol and diesel prices have decreased by Sh8.80 and Sh7.35 respectively, while that of Kerosene increased by Sh10.71.

Super petrol will retail at Sh116.79 in Nairobi, diesel at Sh108.12 and Kerosene at Sh108.41 per litre.

In Mombasa, a litre of super petrol will now be sold at Sh114.15, diesel at Sh105.50 and Kerosene at Sh105.78.

Consumers are the most hit with the price of kerosine going high among other taxes on services like mobile money transfer, bank transactions, data bundles and gambling.
