Sonko faces another blow as Pumwani Workers stage Protests

Workers at the Pumwani Maternity Hospital have defended the management against accusations of negligence by demonstrating.

The workers now accuse Governor Mike Sonko of letting them work under poor and tough conditions.

This came as a result of the discovery of 12 bodies of infants during an impromptu visit by Sonko who arrived on a motor bike.

The workers claim that the county government has over a long period of time failed to address their concerns..

They say they only have five consultants, obstetricians and gynecologists against a very huge number (of patients) which swells every day.

The workers spoke after Sonko suspended top county officials who contradicted him on the cause of the infant deaths at the hospital whose management he also interdicted.

On Thursday Sonko started installing coolers at the hospital for a temporary morgue following claims that Pumwani had no morgue.

Reports said that all bodies from the hospital were collected by City mortuary only twice a week, on Mondays and Thursdays.
