Zidane is the favourite to replace Jose Mourinho at Manchester United if the Portuguese was to leave the club. Mourinho is still the favourite with the bookies to be the next Premier League manager to lose his job, despite United beating Burnley 2-0 nine days ago.

Zidane left Real Madrid at the end of last season but has confirmed he wants to return to management. He told Spanish outlet TVE: “I am sure that I will coach again before long.

“This is what I like and what I have done all my life.”
Laurens does not think Zidane’s comments mean he has a job lined up or has eyed up his potential next move. But he is not surprised the 46-year-old is keen on getting back into coaching.

“No not at all (it doesn’t surprise me),” Laurens said.

“This is what we’ve been briefed before, this is why L’Equipe wrote that headline where they were pretending he was ready for Manchester United already.

“Well the idea was that he wanted to get back to coaching.

“That doesn’t mean he has a job that has been offered to him and that he’s agreed to take it or that he has one club in sight and that he is waiting for that club to sack their manager to jump in.

“It’s just that I think now he took a bit of time off after leaving Real Madrid and now he’s ready to get back in.

“Whatever can come up for him, he will have a look at it. He will take it, not take it, but he’s just ready to get back.

“He was watching one of his son’s playing in the youth team with his wife when asked the question.

“I think it was really a question of ‘yes, I want to be back out there, I want to go back out there as soon as possible’.

“But I really believe right now that he doesn’t have anything lined up.”
