However The rock seems not only be good at wrestling or acting but also at discovering good talent. The rock took to his Instagram page where he acknowledged Stella Mwangi’s rapping talent saying,The Rock gave a special shout out to her on Instagram by writing “Oh Lord look what I got though No Dwayne but I Rock though! This is not the first time Stella Mwangi’s songs are being used in hollywood, in 2017 her star shone in Hollywood, the gaming world and the fashion world.
Her 2008 single ‘She Got It’ from her album ‘Living for Music’ was still making waves in the real-time battle game ‘Clash Royale’.
In Hollywood, ‘Get Up and Go’ one of her recent singles was featured in Morris Chestnut’s TV series ‘Rosewood’ in season 2 episode 15 and ‘Set it off’, the 4th record off her recent self-titled EP was featured in B.E.T’s ‘Being Mary Jane.’
In the fashion world, her song ‘Work’ was used in Reebok’s venture with Teyana Taylor, the ‘Reebok Classic Freestyle Hi’ and Tommy Hilfiger Spring/Summer 2017 collection with model Gigi Hadid.
The party is not stopping for Stella Mwangi anytime soon as one of her songs has now been featured on HBO show ‘Ballers’ months after her song ‘Repeat’ was used in ‘Basketball Wives’ .
Stella was born in Murang’a in Central Province of Kenya in 1986 and spent her first 5 years there before her family moved to Eidsvoll in Norway in 1991.
She started to practice playing music when she was eight years old. She also plays the piano. Her father made sure she and her siblings learned Gikuyu language and Swahili even far away from home. He used cultural music and poetry to teach them the languages and this inspired Stella’s music and her connection to the Kenyan culture.
Mwangi’s father was killed in a hit-and-run accident in February 2012.
Mwangi writes a lot of her music about the situation in her home country Kenya, and about discrimination both Stella and her family had to go through after moving to Norway in 1991.
Her work has been used in films such as American Pie Presents: The Naked Mile and Save the Last Dance 2, and also in TV-series such as CSI: NY and Scrubs.
She has won several awards including; the Kisima Awards, Clops Awards and Jeermaan Awards, she is one of the most popular singers in Norway after winning the Melodi Grand Prix 2011.
Mwangi represented Norway at The Eurovision Song Contest 2011 in Düsseldorf, Germany, one year after her country hosted the event, and was eliminated in the first semi-final.
Mwangi has had hits in Kenya, Senegal, and Gambia. Mwangi’s 2018 single “No Games” featured on a TV advertisement by Samsung for their Galaxy S9 smartphone.
