Real Madrid striker Borja Mayoral has joined Levante on a loan deal which will expire in June 2019, Los Blancos announced today.

Real Madrid and Levante reached an agreement over a loan deal of striker Borja Mayoral expiring in June 30th 2018.

Mayoral was hoping to be Madrid’s first striker off the bench this season but Los Blancos decided to sign Mariano for that role instead. That left Mayoral with no choice but leaving the club in search of relevant minutes to prove himself as a useful player for Real Madrid.

The Spanish attacker needs minutes to develop and make good progress as a player, something he did not get the last two years. He should be good enough to start for Levante even though this is a club which might struggle this season, meaning that Mayoral might not have too many opportunities to score and contribute for his new team.

Real Madrid and Levante have agreed to a one-year loan deal for striker Borja Mayoral in which there will be no purchase option available. The 21-year-old forward, who made his Los Blancos debut on October 31, 2015 in a clash against Las Palmas has some European experience under his belt, after his time at Wolfsburg in the Bundesliga in the 2016/2017 season.

Mayoral has also been an integral figure in Spain’s U21 team and is set to be called-up to play the games against Albania and Northern Ireland on September 6 and 11. He has already passed a medical that finalises the deal with the Granotas.

“Real Madrid would like to express their thanks to the player for these years in which he has been part of the club and wish him all the best in this new chapter,” they said in a statement.

Mayoral, 21, was expected to leave the European champions in pursuit of first-team football after Mariano Diaz was signed back from Lyon in a €33million deal.

Neither club have stated whether there is a purchase option included in the deal.

Mayoral made 14 appearances in LaLiga last season, just three of which were starts, and scored three goals.

Coentrao, meanwhile, has headed back to his homeland following a loan spell with Sporting CP last term.
