Finally Ugandan politician Robert Kyagulanyi popularly known as Bobi Wine was on Monday released after Gulu High Court granted him and 11 others bail.

According to a section of Uganda media, Bobi Wine together with Arua Municipality MP Elect Kassiano Wadri and others were released after their lawyers applied to have them released on bail.

Bobi Wine’s brother Eddy Yawe welcomed to release but said the struggle continues.

“This is just one of the things we have achieved in terms of the struggle and we shall continue to demand that our country is freed but we thank God for this step,” said Yawe. The frail and sickly musician turned politician left the court in an ambulance after arriving in court with crutches with claims of torture being leveled against the government.

An international lawyer acting on behalf of Kyadondo East MP Robert Kyagulanyi, alias Bobi Wine, might not represent him in Uganda’s courts after the government reportedly declared him a persona non grata.

Mr Robert Amsterdam is one of the lawyers who has come up to defend Mr Kyagulanyi against the treason charges facing him.

Mr Amsterdam’s role is supposed to be technical, advisory and to do research.

In diplomacy, a persona non grata is a foreign person whose entering or remaining in a particular country is prohibited by that country’s government. The government claims that Mr Kyagulanyi, who is currently remanded in Gulu Prison, is one of the suspects who allegedly pelted stones at one of the vehicles in the President Yoweri Museveni’s convoy, smashing its rear windscreen.
