Jose Mourinho has been told to leave Manchester United and return to Internazionale, to guide the Milan club to the Scudetto.

The pressure has been piled on Mourinho since United’s 3-2 defeat at Brighton saw the Red Devils already lose pace in the race for the Premier League title.

The Portuguese has become the favourite Premier League manager to lose his job first, and there is a wide belief he will not see out the season in charge at Old Trafford.

Reacting to these suggestions, Italian news outlet Calciomercato have formulated the idea that Mourinho should leave United and return to one of his former clubs, Internazionale of Milan.

Mourinho won two Serie A titles, the Coppa Italia and the Champions League during his time at the Giuseppe Meazza, completing an historic treble in the 2009/10 season.

And Calciomercato say Mourinho could be the man to guide Inter back to the pinnacle of Italian football if he was to replace Luciano Spalletti, the club’s current manager, this season.

It is argued that Inter’s current squad is stronger than United’s in every position except midfield, with Ivan Perisic namechecked as one player Mourinho wants to work with, having tried to bring him to Old Trafford in each of the last two years.

The Portuguese’s trophy record is compared favourably to Spalletti’s, while his man management is also praised in relation to the latter. If sacked this season, it’s unlikely Mourinho would take a new job before next summer.

However, Calciomercato believe he should be brought as quickly as possible to Milan to guide Inter to their first Scudetto since Mourinho left the club in 2010.

Jose Mourinho will hold crisis talks with his players on Wednesday after a summer of turmoil at Manchester United, reports claim. The former Chelsea and Real Madrid boss was furious with the club’s failure to land several of his top targets in the summer transfer window – but his attitude towards his current squad has left many disillusioned. Manchester United chiefs are concerned at the confrontational approach taken by the Portuguese, although he retains the full backing of the board,

Senior officials are convinced that executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward is in full control of the situation, despite fears that if it’s not tackled quickly then a snowball effect could occur. That said, there is little panic among the club’s top brass and Mourinho has now moved to solve the unrest in his dressing room.
