Benjamin Cements his Place as Man City’s fan Favorite

Benjamin Mendy hailed David Silva‘s son as Man of the Match following Manchester City‘s emphatic 6-1 victory over Huddersfield Town.

Mateo Silva was born in December, extremely prematurely, and there were grave concerns that he would not survive after fighting for his life for the first five months.

David was given time off by his club in March to be with his son and girlfriend before Mateo was eventually given the all-clear the following month.

Despite the turmoil going on in his private life, Silva’s form on the field did not drop last season and today he was able to proudly parade his son on the pitch before making his 250th appearance for the Premier League champions.

Mendy’s post-match tweet read: “Yes, 6-1. Yes, one or more assists for me (certainly more). Yeah, ‘Kun’ scored three goals and all that. But our MOTM today it’s him (and I’m not talking about his dad) #mateo.”

City’s title rivals will already be concerned as they followed up a comfortable 2-0 win against Arsenal at the Emirates with a devastating display of attacking flair, as Sergio Aguero netted a hat-trick to record his third treble of the year.

Mateo’s dad, meanwhile, put in a performance that confirmed his legendary status at the club.

Creating six chances for his teammates, David Silva also netted his 49th league goal for City.

El Mago’s brilliant free-kick was surprisingly the first ever direct set-piece he had scored in the English top-flight.

After the match, Silva posted a squad photo from the dressing room with his son at the centre.

A fitting way to remember an incredible afternoon.
