Liverpool coach Klopp has picked which goalkeeper he’s keeping

The charismatic German drafted in Alisson from Roma in the summer following Loris Karius’ horror show in the Champions League final.

The Brazil international cost an eye-watering £67m and is already firmly established at the Reds’ No. 1 option between the sticks.

Klopp will offload one of Mignolet and Karius – although reports over the weekend suggested he wasn’t sure which goalie would leave.

Mignolet’s agent, Nico Vaesen, has hinted that keeping Mignolet is Klopp’s priority.

“Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp could keep Simon Migonlet” However, the Belgium international is keen to start afresh elsewhere.

He told La Derniere Heure: “We’re in talks but there’s no agreement yet, although it’s in the interests of the clubs to find one.

“Liverpool would like to keep him, but Simon wants to play and must play. He deserves a top club.

“Mignolet is their best option in terms of quality, but we must also consider the economic aspect.”

Klopp’s men cruised to a 4-0 win over an uninspiring West Ham side.

Speaking before the clash, Klopp hailed Alisson’s mental toughness.

“The good thing is from the first day he has been very stable and calm, but then again we already knew a few things about his personality when we signed him,” Klopp said.

“And apart from catching balls, that helps massively.

“You need to have the right personality for that very difficult job. And obviously he has that.”

New Liverpool goalkeeper Alisson’s commanding presence and skill on the ball is boosting the defensive players’ confidence, Dutch centre-back Virgil van Dijk has said.

Brazil international Alisson made his competitive debut in Liverpool’s 4-0 win over West Ham in the Premier League on Sunday and the 25-year-old impressed as he began life in English football with a clean sheet.

“We speak a lot. He’s very vocal and that helps. It helps me and everyone in the backline. I think his presence is very good as well,” Van Dijk said.

“He has a lot of qualities on the ball that help us playing. We’ve worked on it the whole pre-season and we’ll keep building and practising. There’s still a lot to do.

“West Ham was just one game. We can do a lot better in certain moments and it’s just the start. We’re trying to build something.”

Liverpool’s defensive solidity since Van Dijk’s arrival in January has seen them keep clean sheets in their last six home league matches and the club have not conceded a league goal at Anfield since February.

The Merseyside team will be hoping to take that form on the road when they travel to Crystal Palace in their next league fixture on Monday.

Simon Mignolet’s agent is in talks with Napoli over a transfer to the Serie A side.

The Liverpool shot-stopper remains keen on a move but the Italian side are facing a race against time to secure his services with their transfer window shutting at 8pm on Friday.

The Reds have placed a £12million asking price on the Belgian who lost his number one spot to Loris Karius last year before the arrival of Alisson this summer effectively ended his five-year spell at Anfield.

Mignolet, 30, is keen to make a return to first team action and his representatives have told La Derniere Heure they are holding discussions with Napoli.
