Mathare United ace keen to pay Kimanzi faith

Ahmed Ahmad is optimistic that he will continue repaying Francis Kimanzi’s faith in him after scoring the crucial winner in the 2-1 win over Kariobangi Sharks at the Kasarani Stadium on Sunday.

The youngster expertly tuck his freekick into the top left corner past a full stretch Gad Matthews to end an eight match winless run and hand Mathare United the bragging rights in the Slum Derby.

“I have been working on set pieces in training and I was confident it would go in. I saw the keeper was wrongly positioned so he had no chance reaching the top corner.  It feels good to be on the score sheet again and I want to thank coaches who have shown confidence in me,” said Ahmed.

That goal took his tally to three this season and he is aiming for more having nailed a regular starting place in the team.

“I have been working hard to break into the first team and with more game time I think I can surpass my earlier target of five goals. It’s all about consistency and working hard in training,” added a sanguine Ahmed.

Ahmed has made the departure of Edward Seda in June a distant memory with his series of barnstorming performances at the middle of the park making him a darling of the fans.
