Kenyas re-known female DJ Pierra Makena has a new home.

The Female Dj has landed a new job at K24’s new show dubbed Beat Box  where she will be co-hosting with Faith Maina.

 

The show  which is scheduled to be airing every weekday from 5pm  kicks off on Monday 13th  and will be highlighting aqll the latest showbiz stories from the entertainment scenes.

DJ Pierra lands the new job months after she resigned from Ebru TV where shje was co-hiost a lifestyle show dubbed  Lets Talk together with Ella Ciru, Monique Bett and Brenda Wairimu who she also left the show to concentrate more on her acting career.According to Pierra she left Ebru because she wanted a station that would make her be happy.

According to Brenda, “It was overwhelming for me because of just trying to find that balance. Niko acting set and I’m getting late for work, it’s eating into my character and I end up doing a terrible job there. I end up getting there (work), being flushed and not ready.”

“I do not want to talk about Ebru, they are my former employers and I respect them. It was just about my happiness, nothing more,” the 37-year-old DJ said in an interview.

Pierra was doubling her show which also serving a the Director of Sales and Marketing at the same TV station.

While DJ Makena has been in the industry for more than a decade now, Maina is the new face in the game, steadily solidifying herself as the next generation of hosts on Kenyan TV. Ms. Maina has been hosting an entertainment show on Kenyatta University TV called Mash Up for more than a year.

Pierra Makenna is also an actress.

Her career in acting began while she was in high school as she indulged in the arts, participating in drama festivals in secondary school. She had won several awards for performances in drama festivals in high school and had been highlighted in the dailies. Tausi was head haunted her and was cast in Tausi.

She was involved in news recording and reporting even producing some shows including KBC’s hit entertainment news show, Grape Vine. In 2004, after her graduation, she left KBC for a position as a news presenter at Radio Waumini before leaving again that same year to join YFM, now Hot 96. In February 2006, she parted ways with the station.

She was recruited to do odd production jobs on the set of the inaugural season of popular reality music show, Tusker Project Fame. Determined to network with industry bigwigs, she poured herself into her duties and soon enough, climbed through the ranks becoming a camerawoman. The calls she so desperately longed for also started pouring in as the producers of TV drama series Tahidi High contacted her for a role.

After several episodes of Tahidi High she put acting on the back burner and quit her role. She took a job with music producers Ogopa Deejays, moving to Namibia to manage their sister stable group, Ogopa Butterfly.

“Namibia was eye opening. I was in charge of a lot of talent and had creative license to do things my own way. More importantly, I was able to work on a lot of personal issues,” she says.

In 2008 she quit and took up a position as a TV advertising producer with Scanad Kenya Limited. In 2010 DStv, offered her the lead role in one of their productions, ‘Changes’.

In 2010 she left Scanad Kenya Limited to help set up One Fm radio station, including conceptualising its sound, format and hiring the staff. It is here that she also picked her other high-flying hobby, deejaying, after realising the station was understaffed and didn’t have a choice than to take on an additional position as a presenter.
