Desprate Manchester United fans have set up a GoFundMe page to raise £12m to get Jose Mourinho axed.

Frank Agyeman from Sydenham near Belfast has created the page which had been shared 21 times as of Thursday lunchtime.

Not a single penny had been pledged by 12.20pm and fans are divided over whether the bid to raise the sum – which is what United would have to pay Mourinho if they sacked him – is a worthwhile cause.

Nace Korosec replied: “With who would you replaced him, with Zidane?

“Mourinho is the best manager for United at this moment.”

Josh Flynnn Tweeted: “Actually seeing United fans putting together GoFundMe accounts to sack Mourinho, classic meltdown in the making here.”

The United boss has made it clear he is unhappy following a disastrous pre-season tour of the US.

He has also not been backed as he had hoped in the transfer market and said today that he does not expect to make any more signings before the 5pm deadline.

Mourinho has two years left on his deal, and would usually be entitled to his full £12m-a-season if he was axed.

But it is understood he will only receive 12 months of his huge salary, after a clause was inserted in his contract.

A United source said: “It became quite a protracted affair when it came to discussing a final settlement with Louis van Gaal.

“The club wanted to avoid a repeat of that again in the future – especially as Jose earns far in excess of what he did.

“Van Gaal held out for every penny but even United have to draw the financial line somewhere with Jose.”

Old Trafford chiefs could also extend his contract by a further year if he was to turn United’s fortunes around.

But it is unlikely he will stay beyond this campaign, with huge fan pressure already to see him gone.

Mourinho is thought to be the Premier League’s top earning boss alongside City rival Pep Guardiola.

And it is understood he has already received around £35m in pay-offs after leaving previous jobs.

Meanwhile, Paul Pogba’s future was at United is in doubt again after his agent Mino Raiola flew in for talks.

It was  believed he is trying to engineer a move away from Old Trafford, with Barcelona keen on his services.

The Premier League transfer window closed on Thursday and the Red Devils the  fight to keep hold of their star man.

Manchester United might have purposefully denied Jose Mourinho his wish of a new centre-back in the hope that they can drive him out of the Old Trafford hot-seat.

The Red Devils ended the window without bringing in a new central defender before yesterday’s 5pm cut-off point.

That’s despite the fact Mourinho had made it explicitly clear that he wanted to strengthen at the back and declared last month that he wanted two extra signings but expected only one.

United, however, did not sign anyone despite links to Toby Alderweireld, Harry Maguire and Jerome Boateng in the defensive department alone.

Mourinho has cut a frustrated figure throughout a turbulent pre-season in which he has complained about the damage of the World Cup on United’s preparations for the new Premier League campaign among various other things.

United have struggled with a number of injuries and had a vast number of key first-team players absent on their tour of the United States, with Mourinho making no secret of his discontent.

The club’s lack of transfer activity has also left the Portuguese manager disappointed, with fresh reports suggesting that United denied Mourinho his targets because they believe he wasn’t thinking about the club’s long-term health by showing interest in the likes of Alderweireld – a 29-year-old who would have cost them around £75m and taken up a significantly weekly wage.
