The Country switched into frenzy mood yesterday when news broke that former Nairobi governor had been arrested by Ethics and Anti-Corruption Officials and later taken to the Integrity Centre.

The office of the ODPP has revealed that Kidero and former Nairobi County Secretary Lilian Wanjiru Ndegwa perpetrated a series of offenses while in office and will be arraigned in court on Thursday to answer those charges.

But now Kenyans are also asking the EACC to arrest Deputy President William Ruto who has been linked with corruption dealings in the country. Duncan Makori, a Kenyan on twitter said that EACC should move very fast and arrest Ruto so that it does not appear like only one side of the political divide.

William Ruto, who is the front runner to become president in 2022 has been at the center of many corruption allegations. Ironically, no one has ever taken him to court to answer any of those questions. The following are some of the cases that the DP’s name has been mentioned.

200 iPhones Mysteriously Disappeared from Ruto’s Office in 2016

Most people have forgotten this but some of us just have a good memory. 200 iphones which were meant for delegates who attended The Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD) mysteriously disappeared from the DP’s Office in 2016. The phones had a market value of KSh 30 million, which is a relatively small amount in the current corruption trail.

The DP’s office is the second most guarded place in the country after the president’s office, so how did a thief gain entrance. According to NTV, Capital Air Time, a company owned by a senior government official was approached by a suspect, Winfred Mukikinya, who purported to have been authorized by the state to conduct business on its behalf to supply the phones to delegates.

Only 17 phones were recovered, and six suspects arrested in connection with the baffling theft but the case went under the water.

Langata Primary School Land, 2015

On the Christmas eve in 2015, a private developer thought that everyone was on holiday and decided to move in for land at Langata Primary School.

ng to two Nairobi primary schools have been grabbed by private developers before Christmas – evoking memories of the infamous Langata Primary School grab last year. The Langata grab caused a nationwide furor and the developer was forced to give back the stolen land. The developer had hived off land at the Nairobi Primary School compound on Processional Way, heading toward State House.

The police did not arrest anyone concerning the illegal and daring act but Ruto’s name was heavily mentioned in the case.

NYS Season 1, 2016

We all know what happened in the NYS scandal, where more than 791 million shillings disappeared in sacks. Anne Waiguru, the then Minister of Devolution was heavily mentioned in the case that has yet to be resolved but only given birth to more corruption cases. Ruto’s close friends Aden Duale, Kipchumba Murkomen and Farouk Kibet were heavily mentioned in the case.

At a church function in Nairobi, the Deputy President vehemently attacked Waiguru, saying she should carry her own cross.

Ruto said there is evidence that money was lost and  appropriate action should be taken against those implicated in the theft. “Give us a break. Those behind theft of public funds cannot be ‘cat-walking’ around freely giving Kenyans a lot of ‘English lectures’ on what actually transpired. Let us be honest and call a spade a spade. It is open public funds were lost,” said an agitated Mr Ruto.

“Surely, when a hairdresser (referring to Ms Josephine Kabura) registers 20 companies and confesses that she actually carried millions in sacks, what else do you want?” posed the DP, in reference to one of the key suspects in the scam, and who has also linked Waiguru to the scandal.

But what changed?

Waiguru is now Kerinyaga governor, in fact Ruto attended her swearing in ceremony. She is touted as one of the possible candidates to be Ruto’s running mate in 2022.
