Gianluigi Buffon made his official debut for Paris Saint-Germain over the weekend as they demolished Monaco 4-0 to left the French Super Cup.
Buffon’s agent, Silvano Martina spoke to RMC Sport about his client and the team’s success; as well as commenting on Cristiano Ronaldo’s move to Juventus.
“Getting a good start is always good in football, but anything can happen. PSG is a great side, it’s a very strong team; they deserved to win the cup.”
The agent also revealed that Buffon was ready to quit Juventus after his long stay at Juventus come to an end last summer.
“I had a coffee with him and he told me he was happy to quit, adding then that another couple of years, in an important team, could have done them well. I have a friend there, I sent him a message and he told me to go right in. He was as important for them as Neymar. Buffon felt the French team’s desire to have him on the team and is very heavy, it seems that he is ten years younger, they proposed a biennial, he wanted to sign only for a year: this makes his honesty understand, and in 2009 he wanted the PSG.”
Buffon’s exit was followed by the move of the summer that saw Juventus sign five time player of the year Cristiano Ronaldo from Spanish Giants Real Madrid.
“He did not imagine it in April, but as soon as the news came out he was sure Juve would take him.
Buffon will play in the Champions League this season and faces the prospect of lining up against his former club, a thought he is hoping doesn’t materialize.
”He loved the shirt he represented, he lives with emotions and I hope he will not meet the Bianconeri: it would be a pain for him. I do not know, but I think a club like PSG will never let him go, but this is just my personal opinion, I’ve never talked to him.”
Neymar came on as a late substitute for Paris St-Germain as his side beat Monaco 4-0 in the French Super Cup.
The match in China was the Brazilian’s first game since the World Cup and first for PSG since February, when he suffered a foot injury.
Neymar came on after 75 minutes in a game between the French Ligue 1 winners and the country’s Cup holders.
Angel Di Maria scored twice while Christopher Nkunku and Timothy Weah got the other PSG goals.
In front of a 41,237 crowd at the stadium in Shenzhen, Argentine Di Maria broke the deadlock with a free-kick after 32 minutes before Nkunku and Weah – the son of ex-PSG and AC Milan forward and Liberia president George – struck.
PSG’s new manager Thomas Tuchel then brought on Neymar before Di Maria scored in injury time to seal a dominant victory and give the league champions their eighth French Super Cup win.
