Report; Manchester United agree terms with Barcelona defender

Manchester United have agreed personal terms with Yerry Mina ahead of his proposed transfer from FC Barcelona this summer, according to reports in Spain.

Spanish newspaper Mundo Deportivo, as quoted by Metro, is reporting that the Red Devils are closing in on a deal to bring the 23-year-old to Old Trafford this summer. The same story says that Mina’s proposed contract at Manchester United will earn him £7.5m a year or around £145,000-a-week before tax.

However, the article also claims that Manchester United and FC Barcelona are yet to settle on a fee for the defender, with the two clubs believed to be £5m apart in their valuations of the World Cup star.

Manchester United have been linked with a whole host of players in the last few weeks as they look to bolster their squad ahead of next season.

The Red Devils have only signed three players so far this summer as they look to try and build a squad capable of winning the title next term.

Jose Mourinho’s second season in charge was something of a disappointment as the Red Devils ended up in second place in the Premier League table and without a trophy last term.

Jose Mourinho has urged the Manchester United hierarchy to make a move in the transfer market or be left behind by their Premier League rivals.

United have been linked with the likes of Harry Maguire and Toby Alderweireld in recent weeks but are yet to add to the arrivals of Fred, Diogo Dalot and backup goalkeeper Lee Grant.

The lack of transfer movement at Old Trafford has come against a backdrop of heavy spending at Liverpool, while champions Manchester City have added Riyad Mahrez to the squad that finished 19 points clear at the top last season.

Speaking before his side’s lacklustre 1-0 friendly loss to Bayern Munich in Germany, Mourinho delivered a pointed warning to the figures controlling the purse strings.

“He knows what I want, I know that he tries to do the best for me and I still have a few days to wait [and see] what is going to happen.

“The other clubs that compete with us are really strong and already have fantastic teams and squads, like Chelsea, Tottenham, Manchester City, or they are investing massively like, for example, Liverpool, that is buying everything and everybody.

United get the Premier League season underway at home to Leicester City on Friday.

World Cup participants Romelu Lukaku, Jesse Lingard, Paul Pogba and Marouane Fellaini all enter the new campaign without an appearance in what has been a troubled pre-season headlined by Mourinho’s frustration over player availability.
