United board have complicated Jose Mourinho plans for one player

Manchester United boss Mourinho wants Martial out of the club with Chelsea and Tottenham both keen on the France international.

The 22-year-old signed from Monaco in 2015 but is yet to fulfil his expectations at Old Trafford, with his career nosediving ever since Mourinho succeeded Louis van Gaal two years ago.

And, though Mourinho wants him gone, the Daily Telegraph say the Manchester United board have complicated the situation.

Martial is not a Mourinho player. The United boss craves experience and nous on the flanks and the youngster simply does not fit the bill.

He started last season on fire but, when Alexis Sanchez arrived from Arsenal in January, his form plummeted.

Members of United’s board are reluctant to let Martial go, though. They paid £36m for him three years ago and believe he can still be an Old Trafford hit.
Mourinho, though, has other ideas. He wants a proven winger for the right flank with Ivan Perisic and Willian both in his sights.

The Telegraph say, though, that United have finally come round to the possibility of letting Martial go.

A massive £70m price tag has been slapped on the forward.Real Madrid, Bayern Munich and PSG have all reportedly been sounded out about a possible deal.

But Martial would prefer to stay in England, in a boost to Chelsea and Tottenham. He is set to fly out to Germany for United’s pre-season clash with Bayern Munich today.

Yet whether United manage to find a replacement for him by Thursday’s 5pm deadline which would allow them to sell abroad remains to be seen.Should he stay, that would leave Mourinho with a big dilemma.

And it may require the United board stepping in to heal relations between both parties.

United are confident of sealing a deal for Tottenham defender Toby Alderweireld this summer.

Over the past couple of months, Jose Mourinho tracked a number of defenders to help bolster his defence though vice-executive Ed Woodward has yet to deliver any.

Alderweireld has long been linked as one of the prime targets and seems an ideal solution to Mourinho’s issues in that area of the pitch.

Players like Chris Smalling and Phil Jones have not covered themselves in glory, with injuries and a serious lack of consistency preventing them to develop into top class players. The jury is still out after all of these years, so Mourinho has made his decision to reform his defence.

The aim for the upcoming Premier League campaign must be to close a sizeable gap between ourselves and Manchester City – 19 points last season, a difference that won’t be accepted this time around.

Alderweireld’s sheer quality and experience at Premier League arguably makes him the ideal target for United at the moment, and the Evening Standard recently linked him as a £55 million target for Mourinho’s side.

This morning, Bleacher Report’s Sam Pilger tweeted that the Reds are increasingly confident they can now get a deal for the 29-year-old over the line before next week’s transfer deadline.

Former Manchester United defender Wes Brown believes the writing is on the wall for Anthony Martial at Old Trafford.

The France forward hasfallen out with Jose Mourinho this summerand appears determined to move on if the right opportunity comes along. Bayern Munich were again linked with his signature again on Friday as part of an ambitious swap deal.

Whether he moves to the Bundesliga or not, Brown  reckons the player is destined to leave Old Trafford in the coming days.

“I like Anthony Martial. I think he’s a great talent and he’s young,” Brown said. “But he’s not been playing so maybe he and the manager don’t get on and maybe he’s not listening to what the manager is asking. “Ultimately that’s what the players have to do. You have to listen to your manager. He didn’t play many times last year so looking from the outside it doesn’t look good. He might be off.”

Martial missed part of the club’s US tour to attend the birth of his second child and the fact Mourinho kicked up a stink over his actions, proves all is not right between the pair.
