Two Nakuru MCAs caused drama at the House’ precincts on Tuesday after they came to blows over a boyfriend.
Joyce Anyiso and Jacqueline Manyara had a bitter verbal exchange before their fight went physical.
One of the MCAs was overheard warning the other keep off her boyfriend. Anyiso accused Manyara of attacking her first. Assembly orderlies assisted by other female MCAs intervened.
The MCAs are said to have insulted each other through text messages before the Tuesday afternoon confrontation. The two were having lunch at the county assembly cafeteria before the incident.
Another nominated MCA was heard telling media that the issues were family matters and therefore, the media should have kept off.”Why are you taking those videos yet this is family and private matter?” she asked journalists.
MCAs across the country are infamous for their physical fights whenever they disagree on motions and political interests.
KISUMU MCAs Fight Over Plot to Impeach Governor
Trouble started after the Majority leader Kenneth Odhiambo claimed that some MCA had hired youths who accosted him at the county government offices.
He said the youths claimed there was a notice of motion prepared in the house to impeach the governor.
This sparked outrage among some of the ward representative who moved out of the chambers to discuss the matter.
The chat later turned ugly when Kondele MCA Joakim Oketch and his Migosi counterpart Victor Rodgers confronted the lot. This escalated into a push and shove between the two and the MCAs as others joined in an attempt to separate the groups. As this was going on, members of the public who were following the events started hurling stones in the county assembly compound.
Police guarding the premises fired shots in the air to disperse the crowd that had gathered near the assembly forcing the speaker to adjourn the sittings.
“What I experienced today at Prosperity House – Nyong’o’s office, was uncalled for. It is unfortunate that a member from this house would do such a thing,” Odhiambo said.
The MCA said he does not understand where the allegations of impeaching the governor came from.
“The assembly is fully behind the governor. Hiring youths to shout at MCAs is uncouth and uncalled for,” he retorted.
Others who spoke over the matter condemned the members who they accused of “spreading unnecessary rumours”.
Wajir MCAs Fight Over County Positions
Wajir county assembly staff recorded statements with the police in February following the chaos which erupted at the chambers.
During the fracas, members from both Jubilee and NASA alliances jointly engaged in fist fights as hell broke loose.
It is alleged the MCAs were unhappy with the executive’s decision to interfere with party affairs. It is alleged the executive replaced names on the PSB with their cronies. They thus teamed up to ensure the list is not tabled.
Immediately speaker Ibrahim Ahmed stood to read the day’s order, Diff MCA Shuib Barre grabbed the mace and run away with it.
The house was later adjourned as Ahmed immediately left.
The police picked up the matter for investigations to establish what led to the fracas and those who were behind.
Murang’a MCAs Fight Over Leadership Positions
In January, Murang’a MCAs for the third time came to blows following their differences on change of leadership in the assembly. This happened after a group of county legislators, among them the newly-elected Majority Leader Amos Murigi, attempted to occupy their offices at the assembly premises.
The were at the deputy speaker Samuel Kihurunjo’s office to serve him with a letter requesting for a special sitting so that the assembly confirms the new leadership.
They also wanted the deputy speaker to introduce them to the new offices. But when they went to the new Majority Leader’s office, Eric Kamande, who was replaced by Murigi, dismissed their actions saying they were just engaging in theatrics.
Trouble started as the MCAs from both camps tried to outdo each other in efforts to occupy the offices. The fight lasted for about 10 minutes throwing operations at the office in disarray before the 15 MCAs retreated.
