Juve’s Higuain in Milan for talks

Gonzalo Higuain and his brother Nicolas, who also acts as his agent, are reported to be in Milan for talks over a move to AC Milan.

The Argentinian forward, 30, reported for preseason training with Juventus on Monday afternoon, but according to La Gazzetta dello Sport, he was due to land in Milan on Sunday evening with his agent in tow, fuelling rumours he will not be wearing a black-and-white shirt for much longer.

Milan have made him their main target to reinforce their attack for the upcoming season, but are currently falling short of Juve’s €60 million demands for a player the Italian champions signed from Napoli for €90m just two years ago.

Negotiations with Milan’s new technical director Leonardo are expected to continue this week, although they are not the only club interested in the forward who has scored 40 goals in 73 games for the Old Lady.

Chelsea are also reported to be keen on the former Napoli striker, who set a Serie A record of 36 goals in a single season under current Blues’ boss Maurizio Sarri in 2015-16.

Sarri sidestepped speculation linking his club with Higuain on Sunday, however, when he told Sky Sport Italia that he is happy with the forwards he has got.

“I’m expecting to see the best of [Alvaro] Morata,” he said after Chelsea beat Inter Milan on penalties in the International Champions Cup in Nice. “He moved well compared to our game in Australia and this makes me very optimistic.”

Sarri also hopes he gets to work with Eden Hazard this season, despite the Belgian failing to provide any assurances over his future following the World Cup.

“Coaches always want the best players, but these best players have also got to have strong motivation to stay,” he said. “We all hope that we manage to keep him, and that he stays with the right motivation.”
