10 stars who could leave Barcelona soon

Following the arrivals of Arthur, Clement Lenglet and Malcom, a number of key players might be on their wa out of the Catalan club soon. Here are 10 stars who might be shown the door;

Lucas Digne

Lucas Digne is almost certainly on his way out as Barcelona confirmed on social media on Sunday that the 25-year-old was travelling back to the Catalan capital from the club’s pre-season tour in order to finalise a move to Everton.

The French full-back has made 46 appearances in two seasons at Barca, scoring two goals. He was signed for €15 million from Paris Saint-Germain in the summer of 2016.

Yerry Mina

Yerry Mina is also wanted by Everton and could leave Barcelona after just half a season at Camp Nou. The Colombia centre-back was signed from Palmeiras in January, but made just six appearances last season and one of those was a league defeat at Levante.

Although he enjoyed an impressive World Cup, his Barca future is uncertain due to the arrival of Clement Lenglet and the club’s hopes of landing another defender before the close of the summer window.

Jasper Cillessen

Jasper Cillessen has made just 21 appearances in his two seasons at Barcelona and the former Ajax goalkeeper looks easily good enough to be a starter at a big European club.

The 29-year-old was linked with Liverpool earlier in the window but the Reds have since signed Alisson Becker from Roma, and the Dutchman, who played against Tottenham on Sunday and declared himself happy to be back on the pitch, now seems set to stay at Camp Nou for the foreseeable future.

Andre Gomes

Andre Gomes has endured a torrid time at Barcelona since joining in 2016. The Portugal midfielder has not been able to hold down a first-team place and admitted last season that he was suffering from depression.

He looked certain to leave this summer, but suffered an injury against Tottenham on Sunday and is now expected to be out for two months, which means he will probably stay for now.

Paco Alcacer

Like Andre Gomes, Paco Alcacer was signed from Valencia in 2016 and the Spain striker has found opportunities hard to come by at the Catalan club.

With Lionel Messi and Luis Suarez ahead of him and Munir El Haddadi now back at the club following a spell away on loan, the 24-year-old (who has made 50 appearances for Barca and scored 15 goals) could be sold to recoup some funds for the Blaugrana this summer.

Denis Suarez

Denis Suarez found form in the second half of last season, but is way down the pecking order at Barcelona after the arrivals of Malcom and Arthur and looks to be surplus to requirements at Camp Nou.

However, he suffered a hamstring injury in the friendly against Tottenham on Sunday and that could affect a possible departure from the Catalan club this summer.

Aleix Vidal

Originally signed as a right-back, Aleix Vidal is not trusted by coach Ernesto Valverde in that position and, as a forward, he is some way down the list at Barcelona.

Although surprisingly used as a substitute in the 1-1 draw at Chelsea in the Champions League last 16 instead of summer signing Ousmane Dembele, he is behind the French winger now (plus Malcom too) and is not needed at the Catalan club next season.

Rafinha

Rafinha spent the second half of last season on loan at Inter, but is now back with Barcelona and has praised the signings of compatriots Arthur and Malcom, comparing the former with Blaugrana legend Xavi.

Asked about his own future this week, though, he said: “God only knows!” As things stand, he looks unlikely to receive much game time when everyone is fit at the Catalan club and could well be sold this summer.

Thomas Vermaelen

Thomas Vermaelen surprised many at Barcelona last season with his positive performances, having previously endured several frustrating campaigns at Camp Nou.

However, the Belgium defender remains injury prone and has just one year left on his contract.

Barca have already signed Clement Lenglet this summer and if the Catalans can bring in another centre-back before the new season starts, the 32-year-old should leave.

Ousmane Dembele

Signed for an initial €105 million last summer following the departure of Neymar, Ousmane Dembele had two spells out through injury and also took time to adapt to Barcelona’s style of play, particularly the defensive duties.

Coach Ernesto Valverde does not seem to trust him entirely and with Malcom signed recently, he will have to fight for a place in 2018-19. But despite reports to the contrary, Barca are not considering his sale this summer.
