Turkana South MP Constructed a School Fence at sh 2.2 million

The government has been rocked with yet another corruption scandal. This time the Turkana South CDF has been exposed for misappropriation of funds and corruption.

An expose has revealed that the kitty used more than sh 2.2 million to construct a school fence at Nachoke primary school. Surely, What kind of fence can cost all  that money?

Kenyans on twitter have reacted bitterly to the latest scandal which comes hot on the heels of the NYS Season 2, Kenya Power and Kenya pipeline.

under the hash-tag #TurkanaSouthCDF misuse, netizens also revealed that they also constructed two classrooms and supplied 5o desks at a cost of two million shillings. This happened at Lokwadwat primary schools.

Lomopus primary school also got the same items but this time at a cost of sh 2.25 million shillings which is a huge inflation on the current market.

The CDF Kitty which mainly caters for education improvement is manned by the local Member of Parliament. But MPs have also been accused of using CDF as slush funds to reward cronies and punish perceived opponents. CDF committees are invariably staffed by MPs’ cronies and henchmen.

Turkana South has just exposed what is happening in all the other 290 constituencies in which Kenyan politicians run taxpayers money like personal property. But what is happening in Turkana is a bitter pill to swallow for the residents who are the poorest in the country.

Most residents lack basic social amenities like schools, clean water, hospitals, roads and access to electricity. It is also one of the regions with a high rate of illiteracy and the money would have gone a long way to improve their status.

The area MP, James Lomenen, whose election was earlier this year upheld by the court after being challenged by bitter rival Ebenyo Ekuwom is yet to commend on the allegations.

Lomenen was accused of bribing voters with relief food in the run-up to bitterly contested elections. But it seems, we now know the source of the money he was using to buy the food.

We don’t understand the rationale behind a leader stealing money meant to improve the livelihoods of poverty stricken residents who depend on relief food for survival. But that is Kenyan leaders for you.

We are still waiting to see how the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission and the tutelage of Bishop Wabukala will react to this scandal.

Already, Kenya Power bosses have been arraigned in court by the commission to answer charges against Corruption and misuse of office. We managed to pick some of the comments from Kenyans on the Scandal and you can read them.
